Putin Denounces Islamabad Mosque Attack, Extends Condolences to Pakistan
“The murder of people during a religious ceremony is further evidence of the barbaric, inhumane nature of terrorism,” Putin said, offering condolences to the victims and their families, according to reports. He added that Moscow is prepared to “further expand cooperation with Pakistani partners in the anti-terrorist area,” signaling stronger collaboration on security measures.
Putin also asked that his “sincere sympathy and support” be conveyed to the families and friends of those killed and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Pakistani authorities reported that at least 31 people died and 169 were injured when a suicide attacker detonated explosives at Imambargah Khadijah-tul-Kubra, a Shia Muslim place of worship in the Shehzad Town area, after being confronted by security forces.
India’s External Affairs Ministry condemned the bombing and expressed condolences while rejecting Islamabad’s claims of Indian involvement, calling the allegations “baseless” and “pointless.” Earlier, Mosharraf Zaidi, spokesman for Prime Minister Sharif, alleged that India orchestrated the attack but emphasized that such actions would not undermine Pakistan’s economic recovery or diplomatic standing.
