Explosion Leaves One Dead, Three Injured in Northern Pakistan
The blast targeted a Frontier Works Organization (FWO) transport—Pakistan's military engineering and infrastructure unit—traveling along Tangir Boshidas Road near Chilas, according to the Gilgit-Baltistan Information Department.
"As a result of the explosion, a local civilian driver was martyred, while three individuals, including a major, sustained minor injuries," the statement said.
Security personnel immediately sealed the attack zone and initiated comprehensive sweep operations across the surrounding terrain.
The incident follows Wednesday's deadly assault in Dera Ismail Khan, located in northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where militant forces killed four police officers and wounded a deputy superintendent during coordinated attacks on law enforcement positions.
The twin strikes underscore escalating security challenges across Pakistan's northern and northwestern regions, where military and police forces face persistent threats from insurgent networks operating along remote transportation corridors.
Authorities have not identified suspects or claimed responsibility for Thursday's bombing, which marks the latest in a series of IED attacks targeting government and military infrastructure throughout the mountainous border territories.
