Attacks, Operations Kill Officials, Militants in Pakistan
In the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, militants attacked a police station and a customs office in Dera Ismail Khan late Tuesday night, killing one police officer and one customs official. Two additional policemen and a customs worker were injured during the attacks, according to local authorities.
Meanwhile, in the southwestern province of Balochistan, at least 14 militants were killed in two separate operations carried out by the Counter Terrorism Department in Quetta and Barkhan districts. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reported that six militants were killed in Barkhan, while eight were neutralized in Quetta. Three police officers sustained injuries during the Quetta operation.
Pakistan has experienced a notable rise in terrorism in recent years, with bombings and attacks targeting security forces, law enforcement personnel, and government installations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
On Tuesday, officials reported that 14 security personnel and a child were killed when a suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden vehicle into a checkpoint in Bajaur, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Following the blast, security forces killed 12 militants. Police also neutralized four militants in Karachi on the same day.
Earlier on Monday, at least three police officers were killed during a counter-militant operation in Shangla district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while two militants were killed in the operation, according to reports.
